2 (15.5 ounces each) cans pinto beans (about 3 cups), with liquid, 1 1/2 of the 3 cups mashed with a fork
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes (about 1 cup), with liquid
8ounces elbow macaroni , penne, or other short, tubular pasta
