A couple of months ago, we gave you savvy couponers the opportunity to take the 2016 RedPlum® Purse String Survey to share your couponing experiences for a chance to win a $250 gift card. Nearly 9,000 of you responded (thank you!), and provided us fantastic feedback on all things shopping and saving!

For September’s National Coupon Month, here are a few interesting insights that we discovered from your responses.

  • Wow!  Couponers are saving real dollars each week.  42% percent of respondents reported saving more than $30 weekly by using coupons and 21% save more than $50 a week.
  • Couponers desire savings for more than just groceries. Although 94% of respondents are  most interested in finding coupons, coupon codes and deals on groceries, you also have your eye on savings for other categories:  cosmetics/beauty products (60% of respondents selected), dining out/restaurants (60%), clothing (54%), and household items (46%).
  • Couponers are likely to use a coupon on a first date. We admire that there is no shame in that many of you would use a coupon on the first date (65% of respondents said yes).
  • Couponers are using multiple ways to find value, no matter the source.  52% percent of you use mostly print coupons, 51% print out digital coupons for use in stores and 35% use print and digital coupons equally.

And when looking at the deals and savings you receive each day via email, text, social and app notifications – nearly two-thirds of you feel savvy, smart or rewarded as a result.

So, there you have it. There is no doubt that couponing is helping many of you to save more money on the things that matter the most to you and your family. Through the use of the internet, newspaper, mail, social media, mobile apps and email (to name a few), the increase of finding deals and savings are easier and rewarding.
