11 Must-Haves for Your Baby Registry

11 Must-Haves for Your Baby Registry 1

You have announced your pregnancy, friends and family are thrilled, and now it is time to plan the baby shower. While you are planning a theme, selecting a location and invitations and more, what about your baby registry?

We have a few ideas for you on making the most out of your wish list. Also, we will share some traditional store options for baby registries.

Here are 11 must-haves to add to your baby registry:

1. Stroller

Let us start with one of the most expensive but necessary items for your baby. You will want a good stroller that will last throughout your child’s developing years. Start by asking your friends with kids for stroller recommendations. Consider the many options for convertible strollers. Some convert into baby joggers, have removable bassinets or car seats or have a second attachable seat. Note that fancy strollers can get heavy. Some parenting sites suggest for a second, lightweight folding stroller to keep in the car.

2. Car Seat

Check the American Academy of Pediatrics for a product listing of seats that meet current safety standards. The list is somewhat Blog, by budget, midrange and premium picks. Also, major retailers like Babies R Us and discount department stores carry car seats.

3. Carrier

A carrier will keep your little one close to you and leave your hands free. First, think about the different types of carriers, including wraps, slings, safety carriers and buckle carriers. Before you add a carrier to your registry, visit baby goods stores and test out the carriers for comfort. If you are not comfortable, your baby will not be either.

4. Bouncer, Swing, or both

Ask for an excellent bouncer or swing that runs automatically—it will pay for itself in reduced stress and more quiet time.

5. Crib

Well-meaning friends and family may offer you their child’s used crib. However, if it is only a couple of years old, this is one of those items you should purchase or receive as a new gift. Safety standards have changed in the past few years. Therefore, you will want a newer model. Consumer Reports offers a crib-buying guide.

6. High chair

It is a higher-ticket item. However, it is a thing that you will need sooner than later. Parents magazine suggests registering for a high chair that you can operate with one hand, making it easier to get your baby in and out of it. Ensure it has an easy-to-use buckle feature and that it is safety certified by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association.

7. Travel High Chair

It is one of those things you might not immediately think you need. However, The Bump suggests a travel high chair is a must-have. It becomes extremely handy for visits to your favorite restaurant or trips to the grandparents’ house. You can keep it stored in the car to make your life easier.

8. Baby monitor

As technology evolves, so do baby monitors. There are many video monitors on the market now. However, most parents agree a traditional sound monitor is a plenty. If you live in a loft or small apartment, you can skip this item.

9. Changing table

Choose a table with barriers on four sides and at the right height for you to avoid back strain. One that stores diapers and other items is always extra sweet.

10. A white noise machine

It can help the baby sleep or stop crying. You can find them at online retailer giants like Amazon and Wal-Mart.

11. Diapers

They get expensive, whether you will use disposable or cloth diapers. In some areas, you can register for cloth diaper washing services. For disposable, Babylist suggests asking for several boxes each of newborn diapers, Size 1 and Size 2.

Also, ask for gift cards to online shopping sites like Amazon and Diapers.com, which provide a monthly diaper delivery service.

Do not worry about finding every item at the same retailer. Major retailers like Babies R Us, Wal-Mart, Pottery Barn Kids, Target and Buy Buy Baby all have baby registries. Also, sites like My Registry and The Bump allow you to combine registries for your favorite items all in one place, making it easy for your guests to shop for you and your little one.
