3 Fall Skirt Lengths, and Whether You Should Wear 'Em!

By Alisa Neely

Sick and tired of waking up every season to a new dictate on skirt length, with no idea whether this new look will look any good on your bangin' (or...err..not-so-banging-at-this-moment-but-I'll-be-back-in-shape-soon) bod? We've pulled together three different lengths that are perfect for this season, and given you the 411 on whether you should wear them. Read on!

It doesn’t happen all the time but every so often a classic becomes a trend. That is what has happened with the pencil skirt this season. From Michael Kors to Club Monaco designers are embracing this polished classic. An item like the pencil skirt becomes a classic because it is versatile and looks good on almost any body type. So when in doubt this fall, grab a pencil from the closet. This season you can find many variations of the skirt, from high waisted to belted but the essential pencil skirt is knee length and black in a season-less fabric. The look can be worn with a bare leg or a pair of opaque hose; pair it with your highest heels for night and your comfortable kittens for day and put this great classic to work.

The mini's back too, but it isn’t for the faint of heart. If you are even considering wearing this style with a bare leg you’ll need the gams of Twiggy and to have been born in the 80’s. For the rest of us who still want to partake in this fun and flirty style, look for a mini that also has a little volume, maybe an a-line cut or a bubble hem you can make it a little less revealing with a pair of opaque tights and a tall flat boot. Balance the look with a great fitted blazer and a long cozy scarf and your ready for that fall weekend in the city. This skirt is going to work particularly well on those with a petite boyish figure, the volume of the skirt will help to create some hips.

Mid Calf is, surprisingly the most difficult length to pull off. The first thing you need here is height. This style looks best on those lucky ladies who are tall and slim. The longer the legs the better this length will work on you. If you are under 5’8" take a pass on this style, it will make you appear shorter and most likely a little dowdy. For those blessed with height who want to try this look put your outfit together by pairing it with a slim fitting top and a great pair of patent leather high heel boots.
